Project:

Designed Security and Network Architectures and Implemented New Platforms for Relocating Firm

Client:

Confidential

Benefit:

The security architecture performed flawlessly - users were able to access their resources without any difficulty yet were precluded from accessing information that was outside their job scopes. The system migration was accomplished on time and without incident. The client lost no production time to computer or network outages through the course of their office move or in the days immediately after the move. Sometimes the highest ROI is when everything works right on day one.

Highlights
  • Client was moving to new office spaces and upgrading their network concurrently - new servers, cable plant, connectivity gear, etc. were required

  • Company developed Geographical Information Systems and required unusual bandwidth (for the time) and network traffic control / shaping with dual protocol stacks - IP and IPX

  • An Internet gateway was to be implemented concurrently to replace individual dial-up connections

  • I worked with the architects to ensure that the computer spaces were appropriately powered, ventilated, secured, and accessible for cabling etc. and my firm was the prime contractor for cable plant installation

  • The new security architecture I designed embraced both Novell NetWare and Solaris systems in a common environment

  • I managed the network and communications equipment installation and was senior engineer on site for that process

  • I developed and executed the data migration procedures to ensure that all existing permissions migrated to the proper place in the new security system and that all data was accounted for through the migration

  • With my team, I moved the old servers into the new spaces to support the data and user migration process

  • Post migration, I scrubbed the old servers of all data after ensuring their replacements were operating properly
