Project:

Develop Integrated Security Architecture for Inter-platform Operations

Client:

NICET - National Institute for Certification of Engineering Technologists

Benefit:

The security architecture implemented saved client staff time and inconvenience on a daily basis. The organization did not have to maintain two devices on their desks and the could leverage the best tools of the Microsoft Windows world working on information from the certification system on the HP/UX platform. Management estimated the payback on this effort at les than 4 months.
Highlights
  • The organization's core certification management system resided on an HP/UX system with limited tools for letter generation and data analysis

  • Organization wished to provide end users with the ability to access the HP/UX system from Windows desktop PCs and leverage MS Office tools for data analysis without compromising system security on the HP/UX platform

  • Users also wanted to eliminate the terminal device and use the Windows PC to access the HP environment

  • I researched inter-platform gateway products that provided Windows systems with the ability to map drives to HP/UX data sets and support securing the HP/UX resources in Windows Active Directory

  • I implemented the gateway and configured to permit  seamless access to data from the HP system

  • After selecting  a terminal emulator product on the Windows systems to replace the dedicated terminals, I implemented it on all desktops
