Highlights
  • Started firm as a one-man installer of local area networks and provided break-fix services to small and medium size businesses

  • Firm was recognized as one of the leading Novell / Microsoft network VARs in the DC Metro area

  • Ran firm for 10 years growing revenue to $2 million levels

  • At the peak, I had 10 staff in sales, network services, accounting system support and administration

  • The firm became one of six Gold Novell partners in the DC area

  • I established the firm as a Microsoft Solution Provider

  • We were an authorized VAR for Cardiff Teleform forms processing system, Macola financial and distribution systems,

  • My team provided all of the trainers for Best Software (now Sage) end user classes for their fixed asset and HR systems in the country

  • I negotiated office space leases, telecommunications contracts, lines of credit with suppliers and SBA loans with local lenders

  • In growing the firm, I personally developed or managed the creation of all internal systems for everything from personnel management to accounting processes to the order to cash / fulfillment process

  • After a ten year run, I closed the firm after making a "bet the farm" investment into a product line that was a poor fit for the local marketplace

  • Building the firm, and closing it, provided invaluable experience and more appreciation for the business owner's perspective
