Project:

Manage Enterprise Resource Planning System Selection Process

Client:

Decision Support Systems

Benefit:

The firm had outgrown their old accounting system and was adding accounting staff at an unreasonable rate to keep up with business demands. Executive management was at first reluctant to undertake this effort until I prepared a compelling case for the project to go forward. I added value to this effort by ensuring that a methodical approach was embraced with all key parties being represented from the project outset. Secondarily, I developed capital and operational projections for the systems and designed the infrastructure design to support the system once selected.
Highlights
  • $250MM sale wholesale distributor of computer equipment was using an inventory / financial system sized for $3MM to $100MM firms

  • Owners wished to become a $1B+ player in the industry

  • Inventory required serial number tracking and ability to handle consigned inventory items

  • I gathered requirements from both entities within the firm - the distribution and the "white box" PC assembly subsidiary

  • Developed "short list" of ERP systems that fit the general requirements of the enterprise

  • Developed RFP, distributed it to vendors and was the point of contact for replies and inquiries

  • Managed  selection committee of business unit and departmental representatives

  • Developed infrastructure design and three-year budget for finalists

  • So the business units would "own" the system, I passed project management of the application implementation to a business PM rather than staffing it with an IS person
