There are a tremendous list of concerns when researching a new
mission critical system: features, customizability,
usability, reliability, and maintainability. I focused on
issues such as: does the architecture make sense? Does
the vendor's change management system appear to be solid
in preventing inadequately tested code from making it
into production? Does the system require an unusually
insecure system to operate? I'm
always trying to determine whether a system is "ready
for prime time" or just a pretty group of screens that
can't handle the daily load my client is going to demand
of the system. |
Highlights
|
 |
 |
-
Client
was a fast growing mortgage bank that had outgrown
the LOS that had been in place for years
-
Though
I was formally handling infrastructure, architecture
and security concerns, I worked closely with other
experts in the search team to help ensure everyone's
interests were covered
-
The
basic feature requirements were established and a
short list of vendors identified before the entire
group began vetting finalists
-
I
developed the investigation checklists and question
sets for the infrastructure, architecture and
security aspects and was the primary investigator
for these areas
-
Informally, I was the resident "pit bull" for the
team as I am tenacious, diplomatic, understand both
the business and technical aspects of an issue and
have managed a few systems vendors in the past
-
Upon
reaching consensus on a single likely vendor, I
managed the load testing process and interpretation
of the numerical results of the effort
-
I
developed the infrastructure configuration to
support the finalist's system and created a draft
budget for the final evaluation process
